Dr. Heather Horton is a smile connoisseur. A native of Chippewa Falls, WI, she graduated from Chippewa Falls High School as Valedictorian and student council president. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota with a degree in Genetics, Cell Biology and Development. She totally rocked undergrad as chair of the Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC). In this position she helped make tons of changes for the betterment of the university, and spoke nationally on how to take college health to the next level. She received the prestigious President’s Student Leadership and Service Award, along with the Mary McEvoy Award for public engagement and leadership.
Somehow, Dr. Horton also made time to be a successful college athlete (Go Gophers!), competing and lettering in Cross Country and Track and Field, including the steeplechase! No wonder she’s a wiz at conquering obstacles! She was also a Big Ten scholar athlete. It’s that competitive drive that keeps her at the forefront of orthodontic treatment and technology.
Dr. Horton also attended dental school at the University of Minnesota. It’s home to one of the top ranked schools of dentistry in the country. Believing strongly in the importance of development and research, she was a board member of NSRG (National Student Research Group) and their student representative to AADR (American Academy of Dental Research). Her research netted her numerous awards including the highest research award given to a single graduating dental student.
She has been published in the Angle Orthodontist, a highly respected peer reviewed journal. While in residency at Case Western Reserve, her master’s thesis won first place at the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontist research competition in 2012. She was also a “Women in Science and Engineering” mentor while in residency.
Dr. Horton is deeply committed to achieving treatment excellence for all her patients, and has shown that commitment by becoming a Board Certified Orthodontist. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists. This voluntary, rigorous exam includes a written examination as well as a thorough clinical examination of patients treated by Dr. Horton. Dr. Horton is a leader in her field, serving as a board member of both the Minnesota Association of Orthodontists and the St. Paul District Dental Society. Dr. Horton is also a proud member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Minnesota Dental Association, and the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists, the AAOF Vanguard Society, and the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Horton is a believer in putting everyone on the path to better smiles. She is trained and qualified to assist those with special needs. It’s something that she holds close to her heart, having both her father and sister trained in this field. She is a proud provider for “Smiles Changes Lives,” a program that promotes increased self-esteem and improved oral health for children from low-income families in need of orthodontic treatment. She is a kind-hearted, super-professional, experienced overachiever. Most importantly, Dr. Horton truly knows how to inspire her patients to smile.
Dr. Heather loves being a part of the Woodbury community! She and her husband Frank have one boy, Fitzgerald.
