Our Advanced Technologies

At Horton Orthodontics, we’ve implemented our advanced technology in everything we do. When it comes to your orthodontic treatment, we use the iTero digital scanner, Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging systems and 3D custom-printed appliances. These technologies allow us to diagnose, plan and treat you in a more efficient and effective way so that you receive the best results.

Our iTero Digital Scanner

When it comes to your impressions, or the pictures we take of your teeth, we want to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. In the past, impressions were created physically with putty. Not only were putty impressions goopy and uncomfortable, but they weren’t as accurate as digital impressions. That’s why we use an advanced technology called the iTero digital scanner, which takes digital impressions of your teeth.

How does the iTero Digital Scanner work?

The iTero digital scanner is a state-of-the-art scanning system. Through advanced imaging technology, the iTero scanner takes detailed 3D pictures of the inside of your mouth, including your teeth and gums, in a matter of minutes. These digital impressions provide Dr. Horton with a comprehensive view of your mouth, which allows for more precise treatment planning. It even means that we customize your orthodontic treatment and experience for you and your needs!

Benefits Of The iTero Digital Scanner

The iTero digital scanner provides many benefits for your orthodontic treatment. Some of these include:

  • Streamlined Treatment Process: The highly-detailed and accurate images means that your treatment can be done more quickly and efficiently.

  • Quick, Easy And Comfortable: Unlike physical impressions, digital impressions are quick, easy and comfortable. Your impressions can be captured in just 60 seconds!

  • Customized Treatment: Since the iTero digital scanner takes highly-accurate impressions, this means that Dr. Horton can customize your treatment specifically for you.

Our CBCT Imaging System

CBCT 3D imaging is an extremely valuable tool for diagnosing orthodontic issues, aiding Dr. Horton in providing excellent orthodontic care. Before CBCT imaging was available, only two dimensional X-rays were typically used in orthodontics. But our heads are not flat! It is important to Dr. Horton to have access to impactful diagnostic tools, which is why she has a CBCT xray machine at her office, so there will never be a need to go to another imaging center for those images. We want your or your child’s treatment to be as seamless as possible! The following are just some of the reasons CBCT imaging is valuable:

  • Evaluating upper jaw width to determine if expansion is appropriate
  • Visualizing the exact position of all teeth, including those that may be impacted
  • Evaluating facial symmetry
  • Assisting in cases where a combination of orthodontics and surgery are necessary

In our dedication to using the best technology available to us, we offer complimentary CBCT scans (Cone-Beam Computed Tomography) to each of our patients where indicated and appropriate. CBCT scans are proven to improve visualization of dentofacial structures. Dr. Horton is able to more accurately evaluate the width of the upper and lower jaw, which is not visible on traditional “pan” and “ceph” orthodontic X-rays. These scans are an excellent tool in determining whether or not a patient needs expansion.

Dr. Horton is also better able to assess things like the location of impacted teeth, identify extra teeth (they can be in weird places!), and assess airway structures to determine if referral to an ENT would be appropriate. CBCT scans greatly enhance our treatment planning for all orthodontic cases ranging from those with minimal/moderate amounts of dental crowding to those requiring complex procedures such as orthognathic surgery or implant placement.
CBCT images provide comprehensive 3D views of the entire oral cavity, therefore allowing for visualization of dentofacial structures far more accurately than traditional 2D radiographs. This enhanced visualization optimizes our diagnosis and treatment planning.

For patients with needs such as impacted teeth or other complicated issues, Dr. Horton uses CBCT imaging extensively in her treatment planning. This helps her to improve the predictability and efficiency of treatment for all our patients.

When we say we see and hear our patients we really mean we SEE and hear them—in all of their 3D glory!

3D, Custom-Printed Appliances

The integration of 3D printing technology has helped orthodontic treatment become even more effective. Dr. Horton can create custom-printed appliances, such as clear aligners, retainers and orthodontic brackets, that are tailored to each patient’s unique dental anatomy. These 3D-printed appliances have several advantages, including:

  • Improved fit

  • Comfort

  • Aesthetically pleasing
